On June 27, 2018, Justice Anthony Kennedy announced his retirement from the U.S. Supreme Court. Although a conservative justice, Justice Kennedy was a pivotal swing vote on many cases, including Fisher v. University of Texas, for which he authored the majority opinion. On Thursday, July 12, 2018, NACUA will offer a complimentary 30-minute briefing addressing the potential impact of Justice Kennedy’s retirement on colleges and universities. This briefing will feature Supreme Court scholar Erwin Chemerinsky, the dean of the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law. Dean Chemerinsky will describe those areas of the law affecting colleges and universities in which the absence of Justice Kennedy is most likely to be felt.
