The Office of the Senior Vice President and General Counsel of the University of Pennsylvania and Penn Medicine is offering a full-time, one-year fellowship, starting in September 2024, for a recent law school graduate. The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) represents the University of Pennsylvania and Penn Medicine in all legal matters and will provide a new attorney with exposure to unique legal issues involved in academic, hospital, and health care administration. This role will provide legal support and advice for the University of Pennsylvania and Penn Medicine along with its departments/divisions in connection with transactional matters, contracts, corporate services, and litigation, across a variety of legal practice areas, including healthcare, real estate, labor and employment, tax, and intellectual property. This attorney will primarily support OGC’s healthcare and higher education attorneys in regulatory, transactional, and litigation matters by: performing legal research; writing memoranda, briefs, presentations; reviewing, revising, and drafting contracts in a variety of areas that affect clients’ business operations; and assisting with all aspects of transactions.

Qualifications: Graduation from a recognized college or university and graduation (prior to starting the fellowship) from an ABA accredited law school with a J.D. degree.

Bar Qualifications: Must be admitted and in good standing in Pennsylvania or other state bar prior to or shortly after starting the position; admission to Pennsylvania bar expected within one (1) year of beginning the fellowship. Admission to New Jersey bar desired but not required.

Other Requirements: This position requires a demonstrated capability for legal research, analysis and reasoning; impeccable oral and written communication skills; an ability to promptly identify and resolve complicated and sensitive problems/issues creatively and with professional discretion; and an ability to interact and function effectively in a competitive, professional healthcare, academic and research environment. Additionally, applicants must have excellent academic credentials, a strong work ethic, and strong interpersonal skills.
