The Virginia Office of the Attorney General is seeking an experienced attorney. We offer the challenge and opportunity of public service, a professional environment, and competitive salaries and benefits.  

The attorney, based in the Virginia Community College System’s System Office in Richmond, Virginia, will serve the Attorney General under the direction of the Chief of the Education Section and the System Counsel, and will provide representation and a variety of legal services to the Virginia Community College System. The System is comprised of 23 community colleges on 40 campuses, a System Office, and a Shared Services Center. 

The attorney will handle a range of legal matters, serving all community colleges of the System, the System Office, and the Shared Services Center in coordination with the other attorneys in the Office of the System Counsel. Legal areas of emphasis include real estate transactions, construction, information technology, procurement, and other transactional matters. Additionally, the individual will provide legal services to the System and the Commonwealth as directed by the System Counsel and the Office of the Attorney General.

Minimum Qualifications 

The successful candidate will have excellent analytical abilities and written and oral communication skills and be able to respond to legal requests in a timely fashion. 

Excellent interpersonal skills are also required. 

High level organizational skills and an ability to manage many projects simultaneously and work under pressure are required.

Additional Considerations 

It is preferred that the attorney have a minimum of five years’ experience in real estate transactions and construction, or a minimum of five years’ experience in the service of state agencies or institutions. 

Preference will be given to applicants with specific experience related to higher education institutions.
