The Office of Legal Affairs, under the direction of the Senior Vice President and General Counsel, provides legal representation and advice to the university and all of its constituent parts, including the Board of Trustees, the President, Provost, faculty and academic departments, the Office of Student Life, Human Resources, Advancement, Athletics, Public Safety, Business and Finance, and the Wexner Medical Center among many others. As one of the largest universities in the nation, Ohio State is a multifaceted institution, with a sophisticated and leading-edge legal practice that touches nearly every area of law, including litigation, labor and employment, public contracting, real estate and construction, intellectual property, research and technology transfer, business transactions, taxation, benefits, administrative law, health care law, public safety and criminal law matters, federal and state constitutional and public law issues, and more.

The Senior Associate General Counsel provides a high level of professional legal counsel and assistance to clients, focusing on the areas of employee benefits with a particular dedication to the university's Office of Human Resources. Main areas of practice will include employee benefits, such as health and welfare plans, fringe benefits and retirement plans, executive compensation, and related matters as assigned. Provides advice on employment- related tax questions. Drafts and negotiates agreements and plans, policy and program documents. Drafts and negotiates contracts for services and other transactional agreements. Provides advice on regulatory and compliance matters. Performs legal research and analysis.

 Required Qualifications:

Juris Doctor (J.D.), graduate from an accredited law school and be a member of the Ohio bar or eligible to practice law in the State of Ohio within one year or less. Must have approval of the Ohio Attorney General's Office prior to hire. Minimum of eight (8) years of legal experience in an employee benefits practice.

 Desired Qualifications:

Legal experience with employee benefits and tax law matters for universities and/or nonprofits. The Senior Associate General Counsel position carries the designation of Assistant Attorney General of the State of Ohio. Accordingly, the successful candidate must also be approved by the Ohio Attorney General prior to hire.
