Organization Overview

The Office of the General Counsel, staffed by four in-house lawyers, provides legal advice to the Board of Trustees, faculty, postdocs and students, administration and staff, and represents the University in a broad and ever-changing range of legal matters, including policy development, litigation, corporate and contract work, not-for-profit governance, intellectual property, compliance and more.

Overview

The Legal Assistant administratively supports the Office of General Counsel, working with the four attorneys, and the conflict of interest in research program.

Responsibilities

Position responsibilities include but are limited to the following:

  • managing the office's activities, including handling finances by preparing the annual budget, tracking expenditures, and purchasing equipment and supplies;
  • providing administrative support by maintaining the Office’s electronic and hard copy files; scheduling meetings, coordinating outside services, and handling the telephones and general information requests;
  • maintaining and checking the accuracy of the University’s conflict of interest database and web-page; preparing and tracking reviews of potential conflicts; and interacting with scientists, clinicians, administrators, and external vendors;
  • conducting web searches, managing contracts, assisting with e-discovery tasks, managing litigation documents, and other litigation activities;
  • other duties and special projects as assigned. 

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree is required.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, computer, organizational, and writing skills as well as the ability to work independently and cooperatively with others.
  • Must possess a keen attention to accuracy and detail, an ability to keep confidences, and a high professional standard. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prior experience in a legal environment, research institution, or higher education environment highly desired.
  • Knowledge of Huron/Click or comparable database software is desirable, but not required.

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on various factors, including but not limited to organizational budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The hiring range provided represents The Rockefeller University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

USD $95,000.00/Yr.

Compensation Range: Max

USD $105,000.00/Yr.
