Exciting opportunity for recent law graduates, including current law students graduating in Spring 2024, to join the staff of a well-respected higher education association serving as the professional home for higher education attorneys.  The Legal Resources Attorney will serve as the junior attorney on staff and will report to the Senior Legal Resources Attorney for Programming and the Senior Legal Resources Attorney for Online Resources. The Legal Resources Attorney will develop and implement NACUA continuing legal education programming, including the Annual Conference, CLE workshops, webinars, online courses, and Briefings; support association collaboration and government outreach efforts; and support the continuing education needs of 5,000+ individual member attorneys. Applicants must be based in or willing to relocate to the greater Washington D.C. metropolitan area and agree to a hybrid work schedule, currently consisting of two core days per week in the NACUA office and three days of remote work.

Senior Legal Resources Attorney – Online Resources 

Salary Range: $100,000 - $115,000 

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Develops and implements selected NACUA continuing legal education programming, including CLE workshops, webinars, and other virtual programs such as Briefings.
  • Develops (with course instructors) and manages certain NACUA online courses, including reviewing course content to assure it is current and planning and participating in online course classes and forums.
  • Supports the development and implementation of the NACUA Annual Conference, including regular interaction with member volunteers on committee responsible for planning the Annual Conference and with other NACUA departments involved in its implementation.
  • Assists in collaborative programming efforts between NACUA and other higher education associations and on external outreach to governmental agencies regarding issues of interest to NACUA members.
  • Develops, creates, pilots, evaluates, and refines member programs and services that are aligned with NACUA’s strategic plan, developed in consultation with NACUA Board of Directors, members, and the Leadership Team. 

Additional Duties 

  • Positively contribute to the continuity and advancement of NACUA’s unique and positive workplace culture. 
  • Serves as a staff liaison to the Committee on Program for the Annual Conference, and other groups as needed.
  • Plays a role in developing and implementing systems and technology improvements by providing input on the user experience from a member and staff perspective.
  • Participates in weekly meetings of the NACUA staff responsible for implementing the Annual Conference, CLE workshops, and other NACUA programming.
  • Participates in weekly meetings with legal resources staff.
  • Works on special projects and assumes additional responsibilities as assigned, such as preparation of concise summaries of new cases and legal developments. 

Qualifications/Skills 

Essential 

  • A Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school, and current law license from one or more states, or plans to sit for the summer 2024 bar examination.
  • Commitment to NACUA core values.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent legal research, analysis and writing skills. 
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks and assignments effectively while working on multiple and competing priorities simultaneously.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, including the ability to work cooperatively and function successfully in a team-oriented, fast-paced work environment with both members and staff. 

Preferred 

  • Familiarity with higher education legal issues. 
  • Prior educational programming experience, especially legal education programming, experience with the planning and implementation of live and online programming, and/or experience working with volunteers to implement programming.
  • In addition to an overall affinity for technology, proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and with the efficient use of other technology tools in handling project management and workflow, online polls, and similar tasks.
