The Associate General Counsel works in close collaboration with the Vice President, General Counsel and other university attorneys to counsel university leaders and stakeholders. This work covers a wide range of complex university legal issues, leveraging advanced legal expertise and knowledge. The Associate General Counsel’s responsibilities will focus on certain areas of expertise as work is allocated across the Office of General Counsel, but may include any area of higher education legal practice, including : sponsored research, faculty governance, employment law and labor relations, student organizations and conduct, academic clinic operations, corporate governance, real estate, litigation management, intercollegiate athletics, contract drafting and review, and institutional policies/procedures, departmental or program issues.

SOME KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Current member in good standing of the Wisconsin Bar or another state’s bar and ability to become licensed in the State of Wisconsin within 6 months of hire
  • A minimum of seven years of related experience
  • Intellectual curiosity and a continuous improvement mindset to seek out and apply best practices for self and the overall unit.
  • Demonstrated professionalism to work effectively with officials and executives in government, business, and educational organizations.
