The George Washington University Office of the Vice President and General Counsel (OGC) is seeking a 2023 or 2024 graduate of an accredited law school for the position of Attorney Fellow. This position is a two- year commitment that is expected to begin in September 2024 and end no later than September 2026.

The successful candidate will join a team of lawyers providing legal and strategic advice to the university and will assist with a wide variety of legal and policy issues that confront a large urban teaching and research institution. The Attorney Fellow’s work may include: contract review and drafting; research and advice on matters impacting students and the student experience, including on Title IX and student academic and non-academic misconduct; litigation support, including assisting with discovery; regulatory compliance; and issues related to health law, intellectual property and technology transfer, business and real estate, and employment and labor law.

Excellent research, writing, and communication skills are required. The successful candidate will also have a strong academic record, with journal membership preferred. Bar membership is not required at the start of the position, but the successful candidate must have taken the bar examination prior to September 2024 and pass the bar within six months. The ability to learn and apply new legal principles, manage a sizeable volume of work and deadlines, and respond to the needs of various client representatives are key. The successful candidate will be a diligent and hard worker, and a thinker who thrives in and can contribute to the office’s fast-paced, collegial team environment.

The Attorney Fellow will receive assignments and take direction from OGC attorneys. General supervision will be provided by one or two designated OGC attorneys.  This position is intended for an early career lawyer.  OGC is committed to providing mentorship and training.
