Ona Alston Dosunmu Joins the American Council on Education’s Board of Directors

The National Association of College and University Attorneys (NACUA) is pleased to announce that President & CEO Ona Alston Dosunmu, J.D. has been elected to the American Council on Education’s Board of Directors. She will serve as the Washington Higher Education Secretariat Designated Representative from October 1, 2025, to September 30, 2028. 

“ACE and the Secretariat play such important roles in the higher education ecosystem. I’m thrilled to be able to support ACE in any way I can to help advance higher education,” Alston Dosunmu said. 

Ona Alston Dosunmu joined NACUA as its President & CEO in September of 2021. Prior to joining NACUA, she served as the inaugural CEO and Executive Director of the California Lawyers Association (CLA). Before her time at CLA, she spent over 16 years in various roles at The Brookings Institution in Washington, DC, a nonprofit public policy organization.  

Alston Dosunmu established Brookings’s first Office of General Counsel and while at Brookings she served as Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary, and Chair of the Inclusion & Diversity Committee. Additionally, she served a stint as Interim Chief Operating Officer. As an early career attorney prior to Brookings, she practiced law with several well-known global law firms.   

Alston Dosunmu holds a B.A., cum laude, in Journalism, and an M.A. in Sociology, both from Howard University; She holds her J.D., cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center.
