Benjamin E. Rawlins - 2016

Benjamin E. Rawlins joined Meharry Medical College as Senior Vice President, GeneralCounsel & Corporate Secretary in July 2007 and served there until 2013. Prior to joining Meharry Medical College, he served as General Counsel for the Oregon University System. Prior to his employment in the Oregon University System, he was Special Assistant to the Chancellor for Legal Affairs at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. He also held the position of Assistant Affirmative Action Officer at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His undergraduate degree in political science is from Johnson C. Smith University, his J.D. is from Georgetown University, and he holds a Masters in Public Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Mr. Rawlins was also law clerk for the Honorable H. Carl Moultrie, Chief Judge, Superior Court in Washington, D.C. 

Ben has given generously of his time and commitment to NACUA during his many years of service. He served on various committees and was an at-large member of the Board of Directors from 1995 – 1998. He received the Distinguished Service Award in 2007. 

Ben quietly mentored so many members of NACUA and encouraged them to volunteer their time to serve on committees and to give presentations. Ben is a quiet and gentile force who, through wisdom and kindness, exemplified throughout his many years of
service to NACUA the best in the association. 

NACUA is pleased to recognize Benjamin E. Rawlins as a Life Member of the Association in recognition of his outstanding service and his sustained and substantial contributions to NACUA and the field of higher education law.
