Changes Ahead: Post-Election Briefing and Roundup of Key Legal Issues

Colleges and universities are grappling with the legal uncertainties that have resulted from a new presidential administration and Congress. What does this mean for existing statutes, regulations, subregulatory guidance, and executive orders?  Amidst this uncertainty, college and university attorneys and administrators are navigating challenging legal issues that also touch core aspects of college and university missions.

This webinar will provide a briefing on post-election transition issues and will explore some of the legal uncertainties that colleges and universities face, including:

  • Transition - the process and timeline for political appointments and policy implementation;
  • Campus climate and unrest issues;
  • Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and the legal implications of proposed “sanctuary” campuses;
  • Addressing sex-based discrimination and sexual misconduct; and
  • Other key legal issues that impact higher education.

The webinar is intended to highlight key issues and provide a factual basis, where one exists, for conversations between legal counsel and administrators across campus. It will offer briefings from a variety of speakers with expertise on multiple subjects. Rather than the regular question and answer period that is part of NACUA webinars, presenters will be provided with questions submitted in advance from participants. The webinar is designed to provide information that can help campuses navigate the post-election environment and respond in a reasoned and legal manner.

This webinar will be of interest to campus counsel, senior leadership, and other university employees who are working on key legal issues that are part of the program.  This is a valuable opportunity for university attorneys, senior administrators, and other campus employees to convene in a single location for a briefing on the issues and post-webinar conversation about how each campus can understand and address these issues moving forward.  In addition to employees of NACUA member institutions, members of cooperating associations are also invited to attend this webinar.
