Janine DuMontelle; Immediate Past Chair 2023-2026

Janine DuMontelle is the Vice President and General Counsel at Chapman University. Prior to coming to Chapman University in 1998, she spent eight years serving in the administration of the College of Medicine at the University of California, Irvine, and five years preceding that as staff to the City of Long Beach, Civil Service Commission. 

Janine became Immediate Past Chair of the NACUA Board of Directors at this past June’s Annual Conference. Janine has been a NACUA member since 2000 and previously served as Treasurer (2018-2020) and as an at-large member of the NACUA Board of Directors (2013-2016). She has served on many NACUA committees including the Editorial Board for The Journal of College and University Law; Committee on Membership and Member Services; Committee on Program for Annual Conference; Board Advisory Council on Diversity and Inclusivity; Committee on Board Operations; Committee on Strategic Planning; Committee on Honors and Awards, and Committee on Finance and Audit for seven years where she served as Vice Chair for two years and as Chair for three years. 

Janine is a frequent speaker at NACUA and other higher educational organizations. She serves as an appointed member of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities Legal Services Review Panel. Janine is active in her community and served on the boards of various nonprofit organizations. 

Janine is a magna cum laude, graduate of Whittier Law School, where she served as Managing Editor of the Law Review. She received her Master's Public Administration, from California State University, Fullerton and her Bachelor of Science, degree from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. She is a Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional and a long-time California-certified mediator.
