Sexual Misconduct Concerns Involving Patient Care at Academic Medical Centers, Healthcare-Related Schools, Student Health Centers, and Athletic Training Services

Reports of sexual harassment often present challenging issues on college and university campuses. But when patients, including students and student-athletes, report experiencing sexual harassment at academic medical centers, student health centers, healthcare-related schools (e.g., medicine, nursing, etc.), or in the context of athletics trainers, there are unique patient care issues that must be approached with great sensitivity. Campus administrators must carefully consider and navigate a variety of legal considerations, from Title IX to the Clery Act to HIPAA and FERPA. This two-hour webinar will delve into the unique considerations for addressing sexual misconduct in the patient care context, such as:

  • The regulatory framework applicable to patient reports of sexual misconduct;
  • Significant investigations/reviews at universities by the U.S. Departments of Education, Justice, and Health & Human Services;
  • Key takeaways from the resulting resolution agreements;
  • Practical advice and helpful tips to those campus counsel and other administrators who handle these reports.

Who should attend?

This webinar will be of interest to college and university counsel who handle sexual misconduct matters, Title IX and/or EEO coordinators, human resources professionals, and other campus and academic medical center administrators responsible for employee conduct matters. Members may wish to invite administrators on their campus and medical centers with responsibilities in these or related areas to join them for the program. This program will be at the intermediate level, and will presume some pre-existing knowledge of the relevant regulations.
