The New EU General Data Protection Regulation:
What You Need to Know About It and Why

The European Union’s (EU) comprehensive new information privacy law takes effect in May 2018 and expressly extends EU jurisdiction over organizations outside of the EU that provide products or services to individuals in the EU. As the regulation imposes new obligations and serious sanctions, colleges and universities will want to understand this new law and its potential impact on the free-flow of information between entities in the EU and the U.S. and identify and take steps to ensure compliance.

Topics will include:

  • Overview of the EU General Data Protection Regulation
  • Appointment of a Data Protection Officer, Individual Rights, and Data Breach Response Obligations
  • Compliance: Steps to Take Now to Avoid Fines and Penalties

This webinar will be of interest to general counsel and attorneys who advise colleges and universities on data privacy matters. Other campus personnel who will benefit from this program include registrars, chief information officers, and information security officers.
