U.S. institutions hire foreign nationals to serve as faculty, to conduct research and to hold staff positions. As the "global campus" initiative spreads across U.S. campuses, the international student population at those institutions will continue to swell. As a result, campus personnel must understand an alphabet soup of immigration laws and regulations, including F, J, and H-1B Visas.
This course is designed to help higher education attorneys and administrators understand some of the basic issues and options for admitting foreign students and scholars and employing foreign nationals. Join instructors Leigh Cole and Michael Pfahl as they lead participants through this four-week online course. Topics covered will include:
- Immigration definitions and concepts relevant to higher education
- Student-related immigration matters including F Visas and J Visas
- Employment-related immigration matters including F, J and H-1B employees
- Overview of employer sanctions
- Essential operations for basic immigration processing
The course is a blend of self-study and instructor-facilitated learning. Participants can access materials 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Each weekly module features a narrated PowerPoint presentation (like a pre-recorded virtual seminar), self-assessments, and extensive resources.
