The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act requires colleges and universities participating in federal financial aid programs to maintain and disclose campus crime statistics and security information. The Education Department’s office of Federal Student Aid has responsibility for receiving Clery reports filed by institutions of higher education and for auditing and enforcing their compliance with the Act. Many colleges and universities have received substantial fines following FSA audits of their Clery compliance.
