Legal and Medical Risk Considerations for Student-Athletes

Participation in athletics provides college and university students with rewarding opportunities to challenge themselves and test their physical limits. While these activities can enrich students’ college experiences, they can also lead to short-term and life-long injuries. In recent years, litigation by student athletes, primarily those participating in intercollegiate athletics, alleging institutional liability for sports injuries has increased. This webinar will look at the developing legal duties and liability standards, the enforceability of releases and other defenses, and suggested practices to help manage injury risks associated with athletics activities on your campus.

Who Should Attend

This webinar will be of interest to campus counsel, administrators, and others on campus with responsibility for athletics.

Topics will include

  • Overview of the NCAA’s approach and involvement
  • Legal duties and status of litigation
  • Key considerations in mitigating risks, including those related to concussions, sports science technology, supervision and reporting, and more.
