ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS

coleLeigh Cole is a shareholder and director of Dinse, Knapp & McAndrew, P.C., in Burlington, Vermont. She also serves as Immigration Counsel to Hirschfeld Kraemer LLP with offices in San Francisco and Santa Monica, California. A member of Dinse’s Higher Education practice group, she represents colleges and universities in immigration and compliance matters.

Ms. Cole is also a Senior Editor of the Immigration and Nationality Law Handbook published annually by the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA). She earned a J.D. from Albany Law School of Union University in 1991, where she served as editor-in-chief of the Albany Law Review. She holds a B.A. from Cornell University in 1985 in government.


pfahlMichael Pfahl joined the General Counsel staff at Kent State University as Associate Counsel in 2006. His primary areas are immigration and international law, university policy development, student and conduct issues, administrative law issues, and contract development and review.

Mr. Pfahl also coordinates the visa and permanent residency options for international employees as well as legal matters with the University's several overseas operations. He also has a certificate in Human Resource Studies from the Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations. Mr. Pfahl is a member of NACUA's Board of Directors.​
