Sean P. Scally is Senior Associate General Counsel and Tax Attorney in the Office of the General Counsel for Vanderbilt University. Sean joined Vanderbilt in January 1998 after serving six years as Assistant Attorney General, Tax Division, for the State of Tennessee. Sean was also an Attorney-Advisor at the United States Tax Court in Washington, D.C., and clerked for the Honorable William A. Goffe, Senior Judge for the Court. He holds a Master of Liberal Arts (MLA) from Johns Hopkins University, an LL.M. in Tax from Georgetown University Law Center, and a J.D. from Washburn University School of Law. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Middle Tennessee State University. Sean is a founding member of the Higher Education Taxation Institute (HETI) at the University of Texas, Austin, School of Law and is a retired Judge Advocate General (JAG) officer in the U.S. Army Reserve. At Vanderbilt, Sean’s practice concentrates in all aspects of tax, corporate matters, business transactions and employee benefits law.
