About the Instructors
Melinda W. Grier has worked in higher education as an administrator and a lawyer for over thirty years, most recently as General Counsel for the University of Oregon from 1998 to 2010. In 2010-2011, she taught Employment Discrimination Law, Higher Education Law and In-House Counsel as a faculty member at the UO Law School and consulted on issues related to diversity, employment, athletics, strategic planning, transactions and higher education law. Ms. Grier continues her consulting activities with her newly formed firm, Melinda Grier Consulting, where she conducts investigations and provides assistance related to general counsel office operations. In NACUA, she served as President, Treasurer and a member-at-large of the Board of the Directors. She received the NACUA Distinguished Service Award in 2009. In addition to her NACUA service, Ms. Grier is a frequent speaker on legal issues related to higher education law, ethics and civil rights. She authored a chapter titled "Risk Management and Liability Issues for Fraternal Organizations" in The Administration of Fraternal Organizations on American Campuses: A Pattern for the New Millennium by Dennis E. Gregory and Associates. She received her A.B. from Stanford University in political science and communications, her M.A. in political science from the University of Connecticut, and J.D. from the University of Oregon Law School.
Amy C. Foerster has been General Counsel at Bucknell University since January 2013. Prior to joining Bucknell, Amy was a partner with Saul Ewing LLP, where she was Co-Chair of the firm's Higher Education practice. In that capacity, Amy represented private and public colleges and universities across the country, serving as outside General Counsel for some and handling discrete projects for others. Prior to joining Saul Ewing, Amy served as Senior Deputy Attorney General with the Civil Litigation Section of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Office of Attorney General. In this capacity, she defended Commonwealth agencies, including the State System of Higher Education, against lawsuits challenging the constitutionality and legality of their policies, programs and employment practices. Before joining the Office of Attorney General, Amy was with the Pennsylvania Department of Education's Office of Chief Counsel, where she served as primary counsel to the Office of Postsecondary and Higher Education, but also handled matters involving K-12 education. Amy received her B.A., magna cum laude, from Saint Mary's University of Winona, Minnesota, and her J.D. from The Dickinson School of Law of the Pennsylvania State University.
Janet Judge is at Sports Law Associates LLC in North Yarmouth, ME. Concentrating on collegiate sports law and employment counseling, she brings her diverse athletic experiences and expertise in sports and employment law to the table when advising and representing colleges and universities on a wide variety of sports-related issues including program development, NCAA eligibility, infractions and certification, EADA compliance, contracts, pay equity, Title IX, harassment, hazing, academic fraud and athlete misconduct. She is listed in the Best Lawyers in America in the area of Sports Law. In addition to her law practice, Ms. Judge is also a frequent speaker and trainer at Division I, II & III colleges and universities, and NCAA, Regional and Coaches' Conference events.
