About the Instructors

Barbara A. Lee is Professor of Human Resource Management and the former Dean of the School of Management & Labor Relations, Rutgers University. She is also of counsel to the firm of Edwards Wildman Palmer LLP. Professor Lee teaches employment law and higher education law at Rutgers, and serves as an expert witness in lawsuits involving tenure, discrimination, and discipline. She is a NACUA Fellow and served on the NACUA Board of Directors. She is the co-author, with William Kaplin, of The Law of Higher Education, 4th Edition, and the recently-published Student Version of The Law of Higher Education. She has also written for the Journal of College and University Law and numerous other law journals and other scholarly publications. She earned a B.A. from the University of Vermont, an M.A. and Ph.D. from The Ohio State University, and a J.D., cum laude, from Georgetown University.

Kathleen A. Rinehart serves as General Counsel for Saint Xavier University in Chicago, IL. In addition to her work at the University, Kathleen serves as Of Counsel at Franczek Radelet, P.C. in Chicago and as a principal in Conflict Consultants Network, LLC, with a focus on dispute resolution and conflict coaching in higher education. Ms. Rinehart has been a featured speaker on issues affecting higher education at numerous local, regional and national seminars, served on NACUA's Board of Directors (2005-2008), and is completing a graduate degree in dispute resolution with an emphasis on the development of dispute resolution systems for colleges and universities. Prior to her legal career, Ms. Rinehart was an educator and Master Teacher at New Trier High School in Winnetka, Il, and served as the law clerk to Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice (Ret.), Janine P. Geske. /p>

Nicholas DiGiovanni, Jr. is a partner in the Boston law firm of Morgan, Brown & Joy, a firm exclusively devoted to the practice of labor and employment law representing management. Throughout his career, Mr. DiGiovanni has specialized in representing institutions of higher education on labor and employment matters and is counsel to numerous institutions, including Harvard University, Brandeis University, the University of Vermont, University System of New Hampshire, Rutgers, Providence College, and the Vermont State Colleges, among many others. His work has included the negotiations of numerous faculty and staff collective bargaining agreements for various colleges and universities. He is a frequent speaker on labor relations issues involving higher education. Mr. DiGiovanni holds a B.A. (summa cum laude) from Providence College (1970) and received his J.D. from Cornell University Law School in 1973.
