CEO’s Corner

July 2017

Dear Colleagues:

As we approach the end of our fiscal year, I write to extend my appreciation once again for the contributions so many of you have made to accomplish our work together. In addition, it was wonderful to welcome so many of you to the largest-attended Annual Conference in Chicago at the end of June, with more than 1,700 individuals in attendance. Whether you attended or not, we hope you will be able to listen to the majority of the sessions that were videotaped; written materials for most sessions are also available. You may access those sessions through our online learning center at Online Learning Center.

Our dues notices for FY 2017-2018 were recently sent electronically. The Board of Directors in June approved a modest increase of 3.0% in dues for all categories of membership next fiscal year so that we may continue to deliver ongoing, high-quality services and programs to you and your clients. A few programs and services of note during the past year include:

  • As noted above, we launched our new Online Learning Center. The Center allows members electronic access to a wide variety of NACUA recordings and materials from programs and enables all-electronic delivery of materials for conferences. It also houses online courses and webinars.
  • We developed two new online courses on popular topics (FERPA and Conducting Campus Investigations), available year-round, in addition to two current courses that are offered on Title IX and Immigration.

  • We continued to track emerging trends in higher education law in order to provide useful programs to reflect recent developments. This fiscal year, we offered a wide array of both live and virtual programming, including: in-person programs, webinars, and online courses that are now available year-round.

All of our meetings this past year exceeded attendance projections.

Finally, I am delighted to welcome NACUA's new Chair of the Board of Directors, Nancy E. Tribbensee, Senior Vice President & General Counsel at the Arizona Board of Regents, who was installed as Chair during the 2017 Annual Conference.  A brief biosketch is included here. Nancy and I, along with the entire Board of Directors, look forward to serving you in the coming year. I also wish to express my deepest gratitude to outgoing Chair of the Board, Jose Padilla, Vice President & General Counsel at DePaul University, who provided exceptional leadership both to the Board and to the Association during this past year.

I hope you enjoy the rest of the summer.
