This position will support the College's efforts in providing a safe, open, inclusive and harassment-free learning and working environment for its students, faculty, employees and visitors. The Director will have the primary authority for monitoring and coordinating the College's compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX), and the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act requirements with respect to policies and procedures to prevent sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking, including, but not limited to, procedures for institutional disciplinary action and prevention and awareness campaigns and programming related to those areas. The Director will serve as the College's Title IX Coordinator. This position reports directly to the Vice President for Administration and Finance.
Responsible for leading the Title IX team that is charged with coordinating the review, investigation, and resolution of reports of discrimination or harassment on the basis of sex, sexual orientation or gender identity, retaliation, sexual violence, relationship violence, and stalking, in accordance with the College's policies.
The position will work and communicate with the College community, and alumni, campus guests and others as appropriate, as part of the College's compliance with Title IX, the College's Sexual Misconduct Policy and other relevant or applicable College policies. The Director will provide and/or coordinate the provision of the College's education and prevention training programs and campaigns relating to Title IX including discrimination, harassment, retaliation, sexual violence, relationship violence, and stalking.
The Director needs to understand our heritage of education in the Jesuit Catholic tradition; embrace our community culture of freedom, mutual respect, and civility; and possess expertise and experience, which contributes to the College's commitment to diversity and inclusiveness.
Major Areas of Responsibility
- Have primary responsibility for oversight of the College's compliance with federal and state laws and regulations relating to Title IX including discrimination or harassment based on sex, sexual orientation or gender identity, retaliation, sexual violence, relationship violence and stalking. This position serves as the College's Title IX Coordinator. The position serves as a Campus Security Authority under the Clery Act.
- Create the Title IX team in coordination with the Vice President for Administration and Finance and other College leadership. Serve as the lead member of the College's Title IX team that is charged with coordinating and overseeing the College's review, investigation, and resolution of all reports of discrimination, harassment, sexual violence, relationship violence and stalking, in accordance with applicable College policies. Assess and assign investigators to investigate and other personnel involved in grievance procedures pursuant to applicable College policies.
- Identify any patterns or practices of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, sexual violence, relationship violence and stalking that are relevant to individual allegations of misconduct and/or the broader campus community (including its safety) and, working with other campus stakeholders, develop responses to any such patterns or trends and plans for execution of those responses.
- Develop, coordinate, and, in coordination with other campus offices, conduct and disseminate education and prevention training programs, publications and materials for students, faculty, and employees related to the prevention of, and response to discrimination, harassment, retaliation, sexual violence, relationship violence, and stalking in accordance with applicable laws and regulations and College policies (including annual training for all individuals involved with grievance procedures).
- Develop or assist with reviews of climate and culture, often in coordination and partnership with Student Affairs, the Office of the Provost, Public Safety, Human Resources, and other campus constituents.
- Conduct periodic assessments, and suggest improvements as necessary, of the College's compliance with Title IX and other applicable laws and relevant College policies and programs, including but not limited to the College's Sexual Misconduct Policy.
- Prepare (and/or assist with the preparation of) mandatory reports to external reporting bodies, and ensure that the College maintains processes and systems to provide accurate and comprehensive data to outside regulators.
- Serve as an administrative staff member of the Division of Administration and Finance, attending administrative and departmental meetings as necessary/required.
- On occasion, speak with media and members of the Board of Trustees on matters related to scope of work
J.D., Master's, or other advanced degree in a field relevant to Title IX compliance and leadership. 5-8 years of related or transferable experience, and working knowledge of federal law, legal issues, and case law related to Title IX and other discrimination, harassment requirements, sexual violence, relationship violence and stalking and related policy guidance. Familiarity with student, employment and legal issues facing residential colleges, and student and employee conduct administration. The Ability to implement and monitor effective administrative systems to ensure compliance with applicable laws, policies and guidelines. Must have Experience in development and delivery of training programs appropriate for different audiences - students, faculty, staff, administrators, Board members, etc. - on Title IX and related subjects. As well as the ability to foster an integrated team approach to community education and grievance resolution; demonstrate capacity to conceptualize, build and continuously improve effective programs, systems and structures. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to both maintain and project neutrality and establish rapport with a diverse range of community members. Ability to direct and manage a significant caseload and multiple deadlines, and perform detailed work with accuracy under time pressure.Demonstrated ability to deal appropriately with confidential and/or sensitive information and exercise good judgment on sensitive matters. Demonstrated ability to respond quickly and appropriately to crisis situations and have the ability to work variable weekend and evening hours as required. Prefer experience in higher education, direct Title IX compliance, and investigatory experience.
