Administrator Risk Management

Provides administrative direction for Risk Management and Workers' Compensation offices on both campuses with an overall goal to protect the financial assets of The University of Toledo through risk identification programs, risk control measures and risk financing. The position serves as an institutional resource on risk issues; provides oversight for proper management of professional, property & casualty insurance programs which are used to finance risk protection; coordinates auto/property loss claims; and investigates professional and casualty incidents, attempting to mitigate or resolve potential claims early. Provides consultation on the development and/or review of institutional policies and procedures and participates in various committees in an effort to reduce the impact of risk on the organization.

Administers the UT professional insurance program that covers the University of Toledo and University of Toledo Physicians, LLC: Coordinates the underwriting process for the UT professional insurance program, which includes management of the Underwriting Committee and participation on the Credentials Committee; coordinates the practice location approval process with the Executive Vice President for Clinical Affairs.

Investigates professional liability incidents, attempting to mitigate or resolve potential claims early. Advises staff on patient risk-related issues. 24/7 on-call legal-risk coverage. Collaborates with Office of Legal Affairs – HSC when incidents become formal claims regarding settlement negotiations.​

Coordinates the UT property and casualty insurance programs through the Inter University Council – Insurance Consortium for the entire university and administers property and casualty claims. Collaborates with General Counsel as needed.

Reviews and researches issues of risk exposure as presented from all areas of the university and medical center, providing direction to staff and consulting with Office of Legal Affairs as appropriate.

Provides consultation on the development and/or review of institutional policies and procedures and participates in various committees in an effort to reduce the impact of risk on the organization.

Provides administrative leadership and direction to the Workers’ Compensation Department that is responsible for the University’s workers’ compensation issues on all campuses. Approves, monitors, and stresses fiscal accountability for all budget accounts in Risk Management's direction, coordinates with Finance Department to allocate insurance costs, claims costs and collaborates on various actuarial and financial studies.

  • Master's degree or JD with 7 years experience in higher education and healthcare risk, with at least 3 of those years being in a management position.
  • Knowledge of risk and insurance principles and of the Ohio Revised Code, as it applies to state institutions.
  • Broad knowledge of The University of Toledo and The University of Toledo Medical Center operations and a strong appreciation for the interaction of its constituencies.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in communication, both written and verbal, and possess superior interpersonal skills.
  • Conflict resolution skills and a deep commitment to customer service.
  • Strong analytical, leadership and organizational skills with an effective ability to multi-task.

Additional Salary Information: Range starting at $90,320 annually; commensurate with education and experience.
