How to Become More Involved in NACUA
NACUA is unique in the number of volunteers who play an active role in the
organization. This extensive level of participation from members stems from the many
volunteer opportunities that are available. Attorney members serve on committees, plan
workshops, write and edit publications, share documents through the Legal Reference
Service, and participate on NACUANET. The following opportunities are described in more
detail below:
Serve on a Committee
Committee work in NACUA is professionally
rewarding and enjoyable. As his or her first duty, NACUA's President appoints all
committees for the following academic year. Formal notice is sent to the Membership calling for committee volunteers in early Spring, and the incoming NACUA president will announce new Committee members at the Annual Conference. NACUA strongly encourages new members to volunteer. For more information, please
contact Deloise Butler at
dbutler@nacua.org.
Help Plan or Speak at NACUA's Annual Conference, CLE Workshops or Virtual Seminars
Each year, NACUA offers a full slate of programming, including one
Annual Conference, two to three CLE Workshops and five to six Virtual Seminars. From
specialized programs on advanced topics to overviews of current issues, NACUA's line-up of
sessions and materials require the volunteer efforts of hundreds of member attorney who
work with staff to plan events and serve as speakers or moderators. To share your
expertise while building new networks of contacts and resources, contact Karl Brevitz,
Director of Legal Resources at Kbrevitz@nacua.org.

Author or Edit a Publication
Expand your publishing credentials by writing or editing a NACUA
publication. The Association publishes a variety of special pamphlets, monographs,
compendia and other resources of interest to both higher education attorneys and
administrators. At any given time, member attorneys are working on more than a dozen new
NACUA publications. As a NACUA member, you also have the opportunity publish an article or
book review in The Journal of College and University Law. For additional information,
contact Karl Brevitz, Director of Legal Resources, at kbrevitz@nacua.org.
Contribute Materials to the Legal Reference Service
NACUA's Legal Reference Service (LRS) provides attorneys with
comprehensive, timely information on legal issues affecting colleges and universities. The
LRS exists because of information shared by member attorneys over the last several
decades, and now boasts thousands of sample documents. The strength of the LRS program
stems from strong participation from member attorneys. The continuous addition of new
materials from members is critical to providing the most pertinent and timely information
possible. For additional information, please contact Karl Brevitz, Director of Legal
Resources, at kbrevitz@nacua.org.
Contribute to NACUANET
Available exclusively to member attorneys, NACUANET is an electronic
mailing list that serves as a discussion forum and communication service encouraging
members to expand their knowledge of higher education legal issues by calling on the
expertise and experience of colleagues across the nation. For those who participate,
NACUANET fosters personal career growth and professional relationships. When you give your
time to respond to colleagues in need, you can be sure the favor will be returned when you
post a request for help or advice. To join NACUANET, send your request to
techsupport@nacua.org.
