Presented in cooperation with the American Council on Education (ACE)
Institutions should always be focused on ways to minimize the risks associated with sexual misconduct on campus. An institution’s response to the risk of sexual misconduct is informed by many areas including institutional values and goals and a number of federal and state laws. The Department of Education’s April 2011 Dear Colleague Letter further complicates the sexual misconduct risk management landscape. Add the elements of safety, legal exposure, reputational damage, media attention and cost concerns to the balance, and institutions are faced with a daunting challenge. Many institutions currently have piecemeal policies which are applied in a silo environment - a combination that is fraught with risk.
The Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) approach to managing the risk of sexual misconduct is a smart, thoughtful and organized way to address this risk. This virtual seminar will demonstrate how this risk management approach can be applied on your campuses. The speakers will address how to:
- • Design a sexual misconduct risk management program that helps your institution achieve its goals in the context of its unique culture, principles, structure and resources
- • Prioritize the risks and create a responsive course of action
- • Inventory current policies, procedures and personnel
- • Develop policies informed by federal laws including the Clery Act and Title IX
- • Track campus trends to help develop institutional policies
The speakers will provide registrants with sample checklists and policies to help campuses implement this risk management approach to sexual misconduct cases. Registrants will also receive a preview of an enterprise risk management software tool under development that is tailored to the issues of campus sexual assault. Join your colleagues and NACUA members Gina Smith, Valerie Harrison and Robert Roach on November 3 for this important and timely seminar.
The program will also include time for questions and answers. NACUA members are encouraged to submit questions in advance to the panel via the seminar’s NACUALINK page. Register today!
