NACUA June 3, 2010 Virtual Seminar
Presented in conjuction with American Council on Education (ACE)
12:00 pm - 2:00 pm ET/ 9:00 am - 11:00 am PT

Statistics continue to show that college and university campuses are among the safest environments in the country. Nonetheless, violent crime does occur on and near college campuses every year and recent events in particular have focused attention on campus crime and the responsibility of college officials to assess and potentially predict the threat of violence by members of the campus community. Threat assessment teams play a critical role in an institution’s ability to determine if an individual poses, or may reasonably pose, a threat of violence and to intervene to avert the threat and maintain the safety of the situation.

Join us for this virtual seminar which will cover the roles and responsibilities of key members of threat assessments teams from the perspective of an attorney, a law enforcement officer and a student mental health professional. This experienced group will lead the audience through several real-life scenarios to illustrate how a threat-assessment team would assess and respond to specific situations.

Registrants are encouraged to invite current or potential members of their own institutional threat assessment teams to attend the seminar. The webinar is being moderated by Dr. Gary J. Margolis, Managing Partner, Margolis, Healy & Associates. Panelists include NACUA member Linda Schutjer, Senior Associate Legal Counsel for the Colorado State University System, Dr. Jeff Pollard, Director of George Mason University’s Counseling and Psychological Services Center, and Lianne Tuomey, Chief of Police for the University of Vermont.
