M inors arrive on a college or university campus in a wide variety of ways: invited or uninvited, accompanied or unaccompanied by a parent or guardian, for only a few hours or for several weeks. They may be attending university- or third party-sponsored events, using campus facilities, or be enrolled in university programs. Recent events have highlighted the need for institutions to be fully aware of how and when minors may be present on their campuses, of the institution’s legal and ethical obligations to minors, and of the critical need for appropriate policies and procedures to ensure those obligations are understood and fulfilled.
This program will review:
- • The many contexts in which minor children come to college and university campuses
- • The risks of harm to minors
- • Statutory obligations arising from suspected injury to or abuse of minors
- • Risks of potential civil liability from injury or child abuse
- • Suggested institutional policies on reporting suspected child abuse or other incidents involving minors
- • Suggested policies and best practices to manage the risks related to minors on campus
Please join our experienced panel as they explore the important issues, risks and responsibilities related to minors on college and university campuses. Examine with the panel the best ways to address those risks and responsibilities. The program will also include time for questions and answers. NACUA members are encouraged to submit questions in advance to the panel via the seminar’s NACUALINK page. Register today!
