PROGRAM DISCRIPTION
Higher education employment law is continually changing and campus employment lawyers must adapt to these changes. Over the past two years colleges and universities have been confronted with an uncertain economic climate and significant legislative reforms including the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and the ADA Amendments Act. On campus, employees are increasingly using social networking websites for personal and work use.
In addition, as the workforce grows older, more and more college and university employees are reaching retirement age. Along with these new challenges, campus employment lawyers must continue to manage traditional personnel issues.
This workshop will explore both the changes and the recurring challenges that campus employment lawyers face. Designed for experienced college and university employment lawyers and others on campus with significant employment law and human resources responsibilities, the workshop will include 14 regular sessions on areas such as the graying of the workforce and employee use of the internet. The conference also has 10 small discussion groups designed for a candid exchange of issues and viewpoints among participants on targeted issues such as: FLSA issues, employee wellness programs and benefits, employee threat assessments, internal investigations gone awry, LGBT issues, whistleblower issues, current immigration issues, FMLA and other leave issues, and tenure policy issues.
Please join us in San Diego for professional education led by experts in the field of employment law as well as networking and discussion with NACUA colleagues.
