NACUA April 2011 CLE Workshop :: April 29, 2011 :: Chicago Marriott Downtown :: Chicago, IL

Program Description

More and more colleges and universities are "going global" by instituting diverse programs and activities in an ever-expanding number of countries. These programs include everything from university-sponsored travel to year-long academic programs to the establishment of degree-granting programs overseas. Because international programs vary so much by both type and location, there is no one-size-fits all international template. Setting up and maintaining any kind of international program or initiative involves complicated legal, practical and operational issues.

This in-depth CLE will offer registrants the opportunity to hear from speakers whose institutions are pioneers in the field of international programming and to network with NACUA colleagues. The program will be of interest to institutions starting new programs and also to institutions with existing international programs.

Please join us in Chicago for this one-day program which will review the key issues and challenges involved in operating a variety of college and university sponsored programs.

Topics Will Include:

  • •  Programmatic and legal trends
  • •  Legal counsel's role in managing international activity
  • •  Managing the roles of inside and outside counsel, clients, and consulting firms
  • •  A comparison of common legal and operational issues in India and China
  • •  Hiring workers: whose law, which law, whose taxes, which taxes
  • •  Setting up overseas education programs for foreign nationals
  • •  Due diligence in sending students overseas
  • •  Recruiting foreign students to the US
  • •  Working with foreign partners
