Tours and Sightseeing

Even with the nation's largest registered Urban Historic Landmark District, Savannah's 21 green squares and 1,600-plus historically and architecturally significant structures are all within a 2.5 square mile area. Wear your walking shoes and stroll the Historic District.  Or, see the sights by bicycle, carriage, trolley, bus or boat! Architecture, history, fiction, wildlife, heritage and ghosts are ready to be explored in our touring city.  The Savannah Convention and Visitors Bureau has provided a list of tour companies, as well as a map of the Historic District and a list of “Savannah Secrets,” historical accounts and quirky facts that make Savannah a unique experience.

Dining

Lately, Savannah is becoming as famous for its food as for its historic sights. Fresh local seafood, Southern home cooking and nationally known chefs are the ingredients of a cuisine scene that's “cookin', in more ways than one.” The Savannah Convention and Visitors Bureau has provided restaurant recommendations for visitors. In addition, Savannah's City Market has several popular dining establishments. Dine outdoors at a European-style cafe or eat in one of the Market's restored buildings, each has its own quirky charm. For a causal bite before turning in, visit historic River Street. You'll find seafood, steaks and family favorites served in restored cotton warehouses, which are also home to shops and pubs, some with live music.

Arts and Culture

Culture flourishes in Savannah, home of one of the largest art schools in the country. The faculty, students and graduates of the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) exhibit in numerous galleries city-wide, energizing the local art scene. Artists invite you into their studios in the old City Market.

Theater, film and music scenes are also vibrant.  Savannah has more than 45 historical and cultural attractions. Spend a day discovering the treasures within the city’s many house museums, forts and historic sites.

One of the nation's oldest public museums, the Telfair Museum of Art, now includes a dazzling new complex facing Telfair Square. It's surrounded by a wonderland of historic architecture and it's only a short walk from the historic King-Tisdell Cottage, the Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum and the birthplace of Girls Scouts founder Juliette Gordon Low.  Also within walking distance are scores of art galleries from funky to sophisticated.

Shopping

Antique shops, galleries and hand-crafted gift shops pepper every corner of the district and River Street, so explore and shop to your heart's content.  Historic River Street features many specialty shops that carry art, sweets, candles and collectibles.  The Ellis Square area surrounds the old City Market, now a bustling center of artists' studios and specialty shops

Golf

Savannah has more than 30 golf courses within 30 miles, including some of the toughest holes anywhere. Mild temperatures make for ideal conditions year-round.
