       How to Conduct a Basic Search of the LRS Archives

1.  To access the LRS Archives search engine, move your cursor to the Legal Reference Service drop-down menu and select "Search LRS."

2. On this page you'll find a description of the six individual archives that comprise the LRS Archives, along with links to examples of documents that can be found in each archive.  To conduct a search click the "Search the LRS Archives" link.

3.  To run a basic search, just type in your term(s) in the search window and click the "Search" button.

**For more advanced searching, you can choose the option for doing a Boolean search or select specific archives (access the advanced tutorial).

4.  Your search results will show the top 3 results in each of the LRS Archives, along with a short summary of each of the documents.    You can acccess a document by clicking on the blue hyper-linked title.

If the document is available in alternative formats, you can also click on the icon to access the document in that format.

5. For each archive, you can see the full number of results for your keyword search.  You can access these by clicking on this blue search results link.

Click on the blue title or alternative format icon (if available) to access a document. 

The full results screen also has some helpful tools (Summary and Full features) to help narrow down your search. These are covered later in this tutorial.
