Because of its complexity and enormity, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (more commonly known as "FERPA") has, at one time or another, frustrated and confounded most members of the higher education community. This pamphlet offers a general overview of FERPA for higher education administrators, attorneys, faculty, students, and staff who have or who need only a limited knowledge of student records law.
