NACUA's Mission and Strategic Priorities

Mission

To advance the effective practice of higher education attorneys for the benefit of the colleges and universities they serve.

Guiding Principles

NACUA is organized to assist higher education attorneys in representing and advising their client institutions. To achieve this purpose, NACUA and its member volunteers will:

  • Help member attorneys provide high quality and responsive legal services and information to institutions of higher education;
  • Deliver services that allow member attorneys to provide effective counsel to colleges and universities in the areas of administration, policy and ethics;
  • Support a learning environment for professional development of its member attorneys and help them to maintain the highest professional and ethical standards;
  • Work to improve the understanding of legal issues and to enhance the role of NACUA and its member attorneys in the higher education community.

Core Values

NACUA and its members are committed to practicing and promoting the core values of quality, service, civility, collegiality, diversity, inclusiveness and respect.

Strategic Priorities 2007-2008:

  • Provide and Maintain Meaningful Volunteer Participation in a Way that Furthers Our Core Values, with Particular Attention to Diversity and Inclusiveness; Strengthens Our Goals; Complements Staff Efforts; and Meets Members’ Varied Demands, Interests, and Abilities to Contribute to the Association.
  • A. Strengthen Networking, Information Sharing, and Professional and Personal Development Opportunities for NACUA Member Representatives.
    B. Provide Members with Enhanced Resources to Practice Preventive Law and Train and Educate Client Administrators.
  • Launch the Next Phase of NACUA’s Strategic Planning Cycle.
  • Review and Enhance CLE Programming and Publications.
  • Enhance and Refine Electronic Delivery of NACUA Programming, Information and Services to Ensure: 1) Timely and Effective Desktop Delivery of Critical Information and Services on Higher Education Legal and Policy Issues; 2) Delivery of Programming Electronically as an Option or Alternative to Live Participation; and 3) Ready Accessibility and Ease of Use for Members of All of NACUA’s Electronic Offerings.
  • Enhance Outreach to a Broad Spectrum of Potential College and University Members, to Further Increase the Diversity of NACUA Member Institutions.
  • Continue to Develop Targeted Outreach to External Audiences for the Benefit of NACUA and its Member Institutions.
