Fellows of the Association Award

Georgia K. Harper - 2001

Georgia K. Harper is the manager of the Intellectual Property Section of the Office of General Counsel for the University of Texas System, where she specializes in copyright law. Over the past several years, her work in the area of intellectual property and copyright has been enormously helpful to scholars and practitioners alike. Her online publication, "The Copyright Crash Course," provides guidance to University of Texas faculty, students and staff concerning a wide range of copyright issues, and is freely accessible to all universities and colleges. Her NACUA publication, Copyright Issues in Higher Education, was printed in June 2000, and the entire initial print run of 500 copies was sold out in less than one year, to become one of NACUA’s highest selling publications.

Ms. Harper has contributed generously and selflessly on copyright and intellectual property issues over NACUANET, at Continuing Legal Education workshops and at the Annual Conference. She served as the Reporter for the Section on Intellectual Property and Technology in 1993-1994, and as Section Co-Chair from 1994-1997. During the 2000-2001 program year, she served as Vice Chair of the Publications Committee. Ms. Harper is a member of the Copyright Advisory Group to the Association of American Universities, the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges, and the American Council on Education.

NACUA is pleased to honor Georgia K. Harper as a Fellow of the Association in recognition of and appreciation for her many contributions to the Association, to higher education, and to improving our understanding of the myriad issues relating to copyright and intellectual property.
