Shelley Sanders Kehl - 2018

Shelley Sanders Kehl, a member of the firm Bond, Schoeneck & King, PLLC, is Co-Chair of the fi rm’s Higher Education Practice Group. She specializes in the representation of colleges and universities, independent and charter schools, cultural organizations, and nonprofit entities. She has been practicing law for more than thirty years, beginning in the labor department of Proskauer Rose, LLP, and then serving as General Counsel at Pratt Institute in New York. Her representation of higher education institutions ranges from serving as primary outside counsel to specialized work in defined areas. Her colleges and universities include traditional and specialized undergraduate, professional and graduate institutions. She counsels them on labor and employment matters, collective bargaining, faculty issues, corporate governance, student matters, Title IX, discrimination and sexual harassment, compliance, corporate transactional projects, and acquiring and maintaining NYS regulatory authority. She assists with internal investigations, OCR compliance, developing and drafting policies and training staff to administer policies and conduct investigations.

Among her NACUA activities over the past thirty years, she has been a member of the NACUA Board of Directors (1992-1995), chair of the NACUA Publications Committee, and a regular speaker at NACUA meetings. For more than twenty-five years she has served as one of the Co-coordinators of the NY- NACUA Affinity Group. She is a member of the Government Relations Committee of the Nonprofit Coordinating Committee of NY, has served as a mediator for the United States District Court, Southern District of New York and as an Assistant Counsel for the Governor’s Judicial Screening Committee. She was recently elected to the University of Wisconsin History Board of Visitors.

Shelley received her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, her doctoral degree from Rutgers University and her law degree from New York Law School.

Shelley has given generously of her time over the years, and she continues to provide support and guidance to her NACUA colleagues.
